The Carrot Blog

After a few months of freelance work during a period of unemployment, I came across Carrot by happenstance. I was involved in my usual daily routine of sending out resumes and applications when I came across a position Carrot had listed. It had nothing to do with my field of expertise, but something grabbed me to take the time to check out the website for other positions. A Community Manager position was available and I thought, “This is exactly what I want!”

The turnaround was immediate; before I knew it, I was on the phone with HR, then in the office, twice... (once out on the deck, where I immediately was saying to myself “I need to work here”). The final interview was also the day I got my offer… to start the very next day. No pressure! Not one to ever put off awesome things, I jumped at the chance.

It couldn’t have come at a better point in my life; with a pretty exciting move ahead for me from my native borough of Queens to Manhattan in December, Carrot came in and blessed me with the perfect position at the exact kind of company I’ve sought after. It was kind of like Carrot was my unicorn– that sort of magical work environment that people talk of but you haven’t actually experienced. Well, my friends, it exists.

  • Friendly co-workers who go out of their way to make you comfortable? Check.
  • Awesome accounts that make you feel like you are contributing to something cool and exciting? Check.
  • Beer stored in a converted MAC tower? Check.

It’s awesome to have several new starts in your life happen at the same time, especially when they are putting you on the path towards living the life you’ve dreamed for yourself. Sometimes you just need to find that unicorn.
